train travel from genova

I will be traveling from Genova to Bordeaux (St Emilion) on the 12 Oct - would like to break the journey and stay overnight somewhere maybe half way? Any suggestions? Also is it possible to travel this route by train, I am having difficulty in finding a relevant train timetable.

Thanks in Advance

I suggest Montpellier. There are direct trains Montpellier - Bordeaux for example the 1101 arrives at 1511 - then of course you have to get to St Emilion! I stayed in Montpellier last week; it is a small and pleasant city with a large university.

The best site for planning European international rail journeys is the German railways site at http://bahn.hafas.de - it has an English language section.

Genova to Montpellier is around an 8 hour journey it seems, with at least 2 changes of train needed.

Have a prowl around and good luck.
