Hi pwillmon --

You are not way out! You are not in the heart of the tourist-y sights, but if you are willing to take the (cheap, efficient) metro, this is not a bad location at all. To get to the city center you can get on either of the metro stations near your hotel: Alesia or Plaisance. Check out this map of the area from google: http://www.google.com/maps?q=Paris,+France%26amp;sa=X%26amp;oi=map%26amp;ct=image.

As well as the Parisian metro map: www.frenchculture.com/images/metro_map.gif

Alesia is line 4 so that connects you EASILY to the center of Paris, via Chatelet or Cite for example (my recommendation is to get off at Chatelet the first time, if this is your first visit -- exit via sortie %26quot;Place du Chatelet%26quot; where you will find yourself steps from the Seine and a breathtaking first view of Paris).

Plaisance, on line 13, can connect you with the Champs Elysees (Champs Elysees Clemenceau), Invalides, the Rodin Museum (Varenne), as well as help you to get up north to see Montmartre (switch to the dark blue 2 line and get off at Anvers for Sacre-Coeur).

Hope this helps.

Enjoy your stay,

Boots

Oh, and if this was unclear, you do not need any sort of special tickets, since you are within the city limits (on the inside of the peripherique) so you can just buy regular metro tickets to go wherever you want within the city. I wouls recommend buying a carnet (a set of 10) to start, although there are other options if you are planning on doing alot of sightseeing -- visitor%26#39;s passes, etc.

Thanks so much. You have helped...

You should learn to use www.ratp.fr

You can enter your address and get a local map showing the metro and bus stops

You can then get a map of the bus system and of the metro system

You can enter your address and the address you want to go go, and iit will tell you how to get there

for a very easy way to locate the hotel, enter your address incl. %26quot;Paris%26quot; into google/maps and it will show you. you can zoom in/out to get an idea of the relation of your location to overall Paris...

i guess my question is do i buy a pass for zone 1-3 or all 5??

thanks,

It depends what you will be doing during your time in Paris. From your house to the city center you are only using zone 1. Will you be making a trip to Versailles, however? Or anywhere else outside the city center? We need more info. to know how to help you make the best choice.

I am pretty sure we will be staying in Paris. So, I guess we could get away with a 1-3 zone pass????? If we decided to go out of town how much would that cost us???

|||

Boots545: you suggested buying a set of 10 singles.. Will that get me around town?? Metro or Bus???? How late does the metro and bus run??? As you can tell I am flustered.... This trip to London, Paris and Rome was put together in less that a month... So I have had lots of sleepless nights trying to figure out what is the best and most cost effective way to get around. Seems like you are a pro.. Any help you could give would be great!!!!!

Hello -- my apologies, I have been without internet!

The metro tickets you get when you buy a %26quot;carnet%26quot; (10 tickets) are good for the metro, the bus and the tram (though you probably won%26#39;t need to use the tram at any point). The metro stops running at about 12:45-1 most nights (exact minute depends on the line, but try to be on your last metro ride no later than 12:30 to be safe), and on Saturdays (as well as the day before a %26quot;jour feriƩ%26quot; ie a holiday) the metro is open an extra hour, ie 1:45-2.

I hope you got this in time for it to be helpful!
