French Standard Bed Sizes

I would like to know the dimensions of a standard double bed in France; in particular, I%26#39;m interested in the width.

A North American standard double bed is 54%26quot; or 137 cm and a standard Queen bed is 60%26quot; or 152 cm.

Is the French standard somewhere between these?

A double size for all double french beds is 140cmX 200 centimeters.

Some hotels will take two single size beds and attach them together.

I think (?) the singles are 90 cm X 190 cm.

A French Queen bed measures 160 x 200 cm .

in the US the standard for a double bed now is the Queen bed -- the old double which is about the same as the French 140 has fallen almost completely out of use

I was rather shocked to rent an otherwise lovely apartment this spring with a brand new 140 bed -- so it does pay to check size in detail -- and not go for less than the 160 or the two singles as one double (which we find most often) which is closer to a King

we rarely find hotels in Europe -- that don%26#39;t either have a large double 160 -- or two beds together -- if we are in doubt we book a twin room

A French standard bed is 140x195.

More and more hotels now have 160x195/200.

You seldom have king size unless you go to high end properties.

Thank you for this information. FYI, two single beds put together and made as one are referred to as %26quot;a l%26#39;Italienne%26quot;

Maybe but NOT IN FRANCE!

A 1.40m bed is perfectly OK for a real couple ! Otherwise people might as well get two single beds !

For our rental cottages, I take a set of US twin sheets for the kids,

and a set of US queen sheets for my hubby and I.

I%26#39;ve never had a problem with them fitting French beds (or Italian, for that matter!)
