A strange way to fly cheap to Paris.

OK, I am sure many people do split tickets via London to get to Paris. But, by accident I found out fares from Atlanta to Shannon, Ireland are right at 800.00 roundtrip NONSTOP on Delta peak season. At the same time (July) to fly to Paris is $1350 and that is Not nonstop. Nonstop is over $1500 !! My thought is to fly to Shannon and then take the dirt cheap flights on Ryanair nonstop to Paris. But, the Ryanair flights are to the Beauvais airport north of Paris. But, the prices are very inexpensive (29 euro one way, 0.01 return plus tax).

This is just a thought for those who don%26#39;t want to pay atronomical summer prices. I would have assumed Ireland in the summer would be expensive, but I got a nice surprise !! This was a big savings over cutting the flight in London by the way !

Sounds like a pretty smart way to make this affordable --does anyone know of any reason this wouldn%26#39;t work well?

Be sure to leave a lot of travel time between the Ryanair flight and Shannon-Atlanta flight home. If Ryanair messes you up, you%26#39;ve got no recourse with the Shannon flight / airline.

Factor in any additional charges you might see with baggage and other extras by Ryanair, and transport to/from Beauvais-Paris. Does Ryanair fly in/out of Shannon airport as well?

if you do this be sure to put at least a day layover between flights -- particularly your flight back to Ireland

Ryanair doesn%26#39;t care -- if they cancel a flight or lose your bags or are very late -- they don%26#39;t care -- tough luck for you If they leave your luggage in Ireland the whole time you are in Paris -- well they don%26#39;t care

they also have a very low luggage limit, so you will be traveling very light to make this economical

be sure you arrive back in Dublin at least a day before your flight back -- because if Ryanair can%26#39;t get you there on time -- you simply lose your return ticket which will make the 1500 RT ticket look cheap (and they don%26#39;t care)

This can work if you don%26#39;t mind traveling with almost no luggage and are willing to return to Ireland with time to spare (you would then be prepared to book some other airline to get you there, should Ryanair cancel its flight)

Hi

We sort of did that same type of thing last summer. We flew Airlingus from Chicago to Dublin and stayed for 3 nights. Then took Airlingus to Bologna Italy and back to Dublin and then Dublin to Chicago. It worked out well...no complications. But we took Airlingus and not Ryanair. By the way, the Ryanair lines were really long.

I think from all the posts I have read that Ryanair also has %26quot;hidden%26quot; charges for the amount of luggage and weight.

Stay a few days in Ireland if you do that method. You will love it.

I was wondering if you do stay a few days in Ireland would it increase the cost that it will be pretty much the same as if the expensive roundtrip ticket were purchased anyway?

|||

When we did that last year, I booked the round trip ticket from chicago to Dublin....that was one price. So the round trip ticket was the first leg of the trip.

Then I booked the Dublin to Bologna flight as a separate. On the internet it is booked as separate tickets...but if you call them after doing the booking they will get it all on one itinerary for you.

We wanted to visit Ireland again so this was one way to get two countries in the same trip.

I would do it this way if it was cheaper to get Paris.

|||

Forgot to say....

We stayed for 3 days when we got to Dublin... Then spent 5 days in Italy. The Italy part was kind of a secondary trip between arriving in Dublin and leaving for Chicago...if that makes any sense.

So the only increase in staying in Ireland is the hotel rooms.

Ýes, I agree that a one night stop-over on return in a good idea. In my case I do plan to spend several days in Ireland anyway, so it is not a problem. But, in September, I plan to go again to Paris and I will look to see if the price is a lot cheaper. In that case I will probably just do one night in Ireland on return. I am really thrilled to save $550 dollars and even if I have a hotel night or two, it seems worth it !!
