train des pignes

Has anyone taken this train from Nice with Digne in the heart of the back country...Supposidly it stops at some very lovely villages. It is about 3 hours each way...Thanks Loretta

Sorry not the whole way - it is three hours each way and sitting six hours in a train in one day is a bit much in my view, but I can recommend the half-way trip as far as Entrevaux, which is a very interesting medieval village.

The trains are not so frequent that you can get off and admire the villages - not without waiting a few hours for the next train.

Hi NiceLife,,,Thought you had retired from posting...Glad you are still with us. Your reply,as usual is valued and aggree that sitting on the train for that amount of time is not particularily appealing.May consider the half way trip...also,what day trip appeals to you Villefranche or Eze ???? As you seem keen on %26quot;old%26quot; things (I%26#39;m quite old too!) I think you would prefer Eze Village - its an easy bus trip out of Nice Gare Routiere. Its got great character and sensational views down the coast.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous I can really recommend the medieval bourg of Haut de Cagnes - a couple of stops from Nice on the regular train, plus a navette

If you have not yet hit my VirtualTourist.com pages go here for a preview

Entrvaux is also written up along with many other gems of the Riviera.

Cheers!

Bonjour NiceLife,,,,,thanks for the reccomendation. What is a navette??

Will visit your virtual tourist.com page. Will see what information I can find on Entravaux....You are a sweetie,Perhaps old,but we do have our place in this world.....Loretta

Hi

A navette is a free %26quot; shuttle bus%26quot; - goes back and forward between two points all day. Because Haut de Cagnes is 2km up hill walk from Cagnes sur Mer Gare Routiere (bus station) they lay on a little bus that will take you up there for free. And down if you like but its a pleasant walk back.

The railway station at Cagnes sur Mer is a bit of a walk from the bus station too.

The best access is any of the TAM buses route 200 400 or 500 from Nice Gare Routiere to Cagnes sur Mer Gare Routiere, and swap to the navette.

There. Already youre speaking French.

Merci, mon ami....Will definately consider Cages sur mer..Can%26#39;t tell you how helpfull all your sugestions are to a %26quot;foreigner%26quot;...Do so love exploring new places and feel with all your information,I have my very personal guide....also...Would you recommend taking the train from Nice to Arles then back again to Juan les Pins then onto Nice or the bus ??I%26#39;m in no Gigantic hurry and do want to soak up just being there....Loretta

Hi again

Nice to Arles? Does your ambition know no limits?

To get to Arles you need first to get to Marseilles (St Charles), which is getting on for three hours from Nice, and then change to another train for Arles journey time around another hour

To get some orientation go here

You just want a holiday looking out of train windows?

I%26#39;ve done Nice - Aix as a day trip and I figured thats just about the max distance allowing enough time to see a place. It is possible but you are stretching the limits, by the time you have added waits between train changes. You may want to consider staying overnight - Arles is serious distance.

Where does the desire to stop on the way back at Juan les Pins fit in? It%26#39;ll be late.

Hello again....I already have reservations in Arles for 3 nites.Juan les Pins is on the way back to Nice{ where I depart for the u.s..} stay there for 2 nites. Then to Nice for 2 nites...

From what I hear you say, take the train to Arles,I%26#39;m fine with that I didn%26#39;t think that was to ambitious, you seem to disagree ???

.We spend 3 days in Paris then 3 in Nice. The tour ends and I continue on along the coast for 7 days...Watcha think ???? Loretta

All is revealed - you have three nights booked in Arles - that%26#39;s OK then. I had in mind you were thinking of a day trip from Nice to Arles - your plan is fine, indeed, its good, as it is adventurous.

JLP - for me it%26#39;s so so - a sea side holiday resort with a fine beach - and lots of pricey beach restaurants. It will make a welcome contrast to the historical sight seeing stuff.

Paris too? Youre doing %26quot;yrup%26quot;, big time - well done! Sure you don%26#39;t wanna fit Cinque Terre as well?

Cheers

Hi,,,another question...What do you think of St.Raphael ???

It looks to be almost on the sea....Disgregard my inquiry about Hyeres....Loretta
