I am considering renting an apartment for a week in Paris from a private party from an advertisement on Cragslist.org
The landlord wants a deposit check (one half the total rent) which he says he will keep until he gives me the keys.
Are there ways that I can make sure the deal is legit?
Has anyone here been scammed by doing this?

I noticed you did not get an answer to your post, did you ever rent the apt. I just saw one on craig%26#39;s list I would be interested in, but don%26#39;t know how the deal would be made.
