Menton Self-Catering Accomodation

Hi There,

We want to base ourselves in Menton for a 10-day holiday in the South of France, during July or August.

Ideally, I%26#39;d like a one-bed, self-catering apartment between the beach and old part of town. Air-conditioning is important %26amp; preferably a seperate bedroom, as opposed to a pull-out bed.

Access to a pool is a non-essential bonus!

All advice %26amp; options considered.

Thanks.

Ten days based in Menton. Are you sure about this?

I%26#39;m a little bit jaundiced but honestly i couldn%26#39;t think of what to do for ten days in Menton, I%26#39;d go up the wall. Sure its got a beach, but so have lots of places. A large chunk of Menton - the largest part - is just mile after mile of dreary holiday apartments with little else to commend it. The best you can say of it is its easy enough to get away from.

My advicewould be to think again about what you want from your stay. If you want to tour and visit a half dozen other places, somewhere more central on the Riviera like Nice is the usual solution., as its the travel hub.

Mentons only real asset is the number of incredible gardens it boasts due to its great microclimate - as seen from the point of view of plants.

A pure beach holiday, I would recommend Juan les Pins or Antibes anytime.

Cheers!

Hi, we stay in Menton for 7 days every year for one of our holidays and it%26#39;s a great base for touring. If you hire a car then you are ideally placed to tour the Cote d%26#39;Azur and also cross the border into Italy and venture as far as Portofino. Heading away from the coast there are some lovely mountain villages. For the sheer convenience of Menton we%26#39;d never stay anywhere else, as it%26#39;s fine for day trips out to Antibes, Cannes, St Tropez etc but it%26#39;s much less expensive and busy to stay and eat out in Menton. The only problem is we%26#39;ve had difficulty finding self catering so have always stayed at the hotel Le Dauphin which I%26#39;d recommend especially for the corner rooms with sea and mountain views. We found this hotel to be more reasonable than renting an apartment (since this year we have booked a studio flat) and is lovely and cool and refurbished but right on the sea front and a nice walk into town. The double glazing and automatic shutters keep out the noise and the balconies are super; the rooms are light, bright and sunny and the bay is stunning. We are renting a tiny studio apartment this year but are not travelling till July so I%26#39;ll post an update once we%26#39;re back on whether that beat the Dauphin or not. Enjoy your stay in Menton, I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll be disappointed.
