Article on Paris islands

The new issue of the Conde Nast Traveler magazine just arrived, devoted to islands, and has a fun (andwonderfully photographed) article about the islands of Paris (%26quot;Cradle of Paris%26#39;%26quot;). I commend it to all!

|||

I saw it (CN Traveler US edition). The photos are very nice, but the opening photo has the wrong caption mistakenly calling the Brasserie de L%26#39;Isle St. Louis %26quot;Berthillon%26quot;.

|||

Hi paris 1204 -- I was going to just charitably assume it was a nod to the fact that %26quot;Berthillion is everywere%26quot;!

|||

Hi Berkeley_travelers, the caption reads %26quot;Berthillon, on the rue St.-Louis-en-I%26#39;le, is an ice cream lovers%26#39; mecca.%26quot; However, the photo is of La Brasserie de l%26#39;Isle Saint Louis with two of their red awnings with one printed %26quot;Glaces Berthillon%26quot; on it, the other the restaurant%26#39;s name.

Perhaps everyone has a different interpretation, but to me the caption is quite misleading.

Based on the article (by a woman who was born on Ile de la Cite and obviously has spent a lot of time on Ile St Louis, I would guess that whoever wrote the captions was unclear and mushed the two together -- just goes to show, the author probably would be well advised to proofread things personally!)

|||

Yes. True the author says he/she was born on one of the two islands. If anything he/she should know better, right? Even the photographer lived in Paris for five years should know better!

|||

My Conde Nast Mag came this week! Very good articles for those who have never been there ....but I also think that photo is misleading.

That cafe doesn%26#39;t carry all the flavors as the real store on the Ile so a new person might think they were at the correct location and not know any better .

IMO, I think the Berthillion ice cream is over rated but then we get such good ice cream (La Connor -- a small farm fresh ice cream made on the spot!) in my area ....that I am prejudice!

|||

Hi Discover, your local ice cream shop sounds like a winner! I just returned from Barbados and the local ice creams are so good over there too. In Paris, however, quite a few people favor Berthillon%26#39;s main competitor at nearby Amorino.

FYI, generally speaking, once a freelance author submits an article to a publication, they do not get a chance to see it again until it is published. Someone in the publication design department picked out the photo unless it was submitted by the author along with the article. She%26#39;s probably as p-o%26#39;d as everyone else.

Hi

Having been to Berthillon%26#39;s on several occasions I feel that you should all make an immediate reservation at Brymor%26#39;s ice cream parlour in the Yorkshire Dales, UK. Berthillon%26#39;s is good, but not at as good as this! (flights not as regular to Leeds/Bradford, but none of the problems you experience at CDG!!!!), and you get to see the producers grazing in the fields nearby!!

Best wishes

I too read the article...it was a lovely way to relive old times and get excited about my upcoming trip! All the photos were beautiful! Here is another vote for Amorino Gelato!
