Other things to do?

We have been offered to stay with friends in a large chalet in August.

I love the warm climiate and not sure if we should accept the offer.

I would like to know if there are other things to do apart from skiing and snow sports? Eating out - expensive? We would like to look around the towns and villages in the area by train ? or ski lift? Is this possible? Is the weather freezing all the time??

Any info would be much appreciated so I can make my decision quickly.

Very unlikely to be any snow around.

Most ski lifts will be shut.

Weather will be unpredictable - as it is everywhere at the moment.

Having said all that we had a lovely holiday in the region in late spring. The scenery is spectacular

We did have a car without which it would have been difficult to see the region.

There will be lots of energetic things to do - mountain biking, rafting, hiking up hills and mountains (take song sheets for the Sound of Music), swimming etc.

We have stayed in a variety of chalets and one observation is that because of their wooden construction there is little privacy.

Boucheboy,

Thankyou for your reply.

Long walks or even hiking up those hills sound good. I have researched the weather in August , and it does not look very warm. But the scenery sounds spectacular and it will make a nice change. I dont know how high up in the Alps this resort is, but will we need to take heavy coats?

By the way, your observation - wooden chalets - privacy? Do you mean %26#39;you can hear through those wooden walls?

Thanks for your help.

It is the wooden walls!

It is worth it for the scenery - take layers of clothing.

The sun is also particularly fierce at the higher altitude too.

I am sure you will have a great time - and I was only partly joking about the Sound of Music ( unfortunately I can now hear it in my head which serves me right!).
