We are going to the south of France and I am confused as to whether to stay in Nice (being that it is such a large city) or another town nearby wich has good mess transportation to the French Riviera. Is Antibes or any other town nearby more low key, more relaxed? Any hotel recommendations in these towns?
Thanks!!

Can%26#39;t recommend any hotels in Antibes but it is on the coastal train line with easy easy access to Nice but a lot less frenetic than it. Antibes is a beautiful town and more centrally placed for visiting places further west on the Riviera but more pricey than Nice. Depending on your budget, you will get more for your money in terms of accommodation in Nice. The train service is excellent form Menton in the East down to St Raphael further west and goes through all the biggies like Monaco, Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Juan les Pins etc.

In Nice we enjoyed the Hotel Lafayette. In Antibes we have stayed at the Hotel Modern . It%26#39;s very convenient and affordable.

Definitely Nice. More central, more accomodations and restaurants, museums, shopping etc.

I%26#39;ve stayed in both Antibes and Nice and prefer Antibes. This is solely due to the fact that I personally like a base that is small and charming but that still has many restaurants and access to transportation. Since it is quite small it is only a short walk to anything you want: train station, bus station, restaurant, grocery, beach, etc. We dined late and rose early so nightlife was not a concern but you won%26#39;t find it in Antibes. Don%26#39;t get me wrong, I loved Nice as well and it is by no means frenetic and overwhelming. I simply prefer to come back to a more intimate setting after a day of sightseeing and travel. Rick Steves reviews some Antibes hotels in his guide Provence and the Cote d%26#39;Azur.

Definitely Antibes if you want to rest, Nice if you want to party. Nice is New York City on the beach, French Riviera style. Antibes is fun, ritzy but more relaxed pace.

Nice - if you want action !
