Angers Budget

I will be living in Angers for a month, going to school. I am on a tight budget and was wondering if there are any short trips that I could go on that would not cost alot. Maybe Tours....?

Check www.angers-tourisme.com for general local info and possibly www.anjou-bike-center.com as a low cost touring option.

Hi,

There are loads of cheap/free things to do in the local area.

A lot of the museums are either free or have student rates, some attractions are free on certain days each month.

Tours is a nice town to visit - you can get there cheaply by bus or train. Samur is lovely and full of vinyards that you can tour etc relatively cheaply.

But there is a lot to see in Angers itself - lots of parks, museums, music/arts - so you may find that you fill your time without leaving the city!

Angers is also full of students so I%26#39;m sure you won%26#39;t have a problem finding out any more info or getting a group together to share a car for a day trip.

Where are you studying by the way?

I stayed in Le Mans and took day trips to places like Angers, Tours, Poitiers, St-Malo, etc. Angers is beautiful itself, but as far as places to visit go, I suggest if you know you%26#39;ll be taking the TGV a lot that you get a 12-25 card. You pay around 40 euros for it but it gives you a discount off up to half off every time you ride. Of course, you must be a student under 25 to buy the card. It was worth it for me and my friends but we traveled a lot.

I suggest going to Tours because it was the most beautiful and there is an easy train from there to Chenonceau if you want to see a real French chateau. It was my favorite thing I saw in France. Definitely go to Paris if you haven%26#39;t been or would like to go back.

Go to the Office du Tourisme in Angers and pick up all their brochures. If you are there in the summer, they have festivals going on that you will not want to miss. Watch out also for free or inexpensive shows. I saw several free shows in Le Mans as Christmas neared. In Angers, they have a sound and light show on the city buildings in one of the squares along with a Christmas market complete with carousel.

I don%26#39;t suggest spending the money on Futuroscope in case anyone suggests it. Try to find out if you have any friends living in Europe at the time. I stayed in Lyon for the weekend at a friend%26#39;s place who was also studying abroad and it only cost me the train ticket.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! :]
