We are hoping to spend some time around Strasbourg and then onto Salzburg at Christmas. I was wondering if anyone could help with transport advice.
1. We would be flying in from St. Petersburg, Airberlin flies into Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart, so which place would be the best to get a connection, (bus, air or plane) to Strasbourg?.
2. After Strasbourg want to go as direct as possible to Salzburg, there don%26#39;t seem to be any flights, but any advice on trains or buses would bed most helpful.?
3. From Strasbourg we want to go to Vienna Airport for our flight to Paris for New Year, I know there is train service that takes about 4 hours, is there a bus service, and if so does it go to the Vienna airport.?
Would really appreciate some help with this.
Thanks
Liz

Stuttgart is closest to Strasbourg, and there is a good train service, taking between 1 and a quarter to two hours depending on type of train.
After that you say you want to go to Salzburg. And then it seems as though you want to go back to Strasbourg, and then to Vienna.
Salzburg is over half way from Strasbourg to Vienna; so you should continue on directly from Salzburg to Vienna.
I can%26#39;t comment on trains, because when I have done that journey it has always been by car straight down the Autobahn; however the following link is for the German Railways official site, and they have a version in English

Sorry, I meant from Salsburg we wanted to go straight to Vienna, and I know this can be done with a 4 hour train ride.
Are there any bus services that we could look at to travel from Strasbourg to Salzburg?
Air Berlin also fly from St. Petersburg to Baden Baden, would that be easier than Stuttgart to get to Strasbourg.
Thanks for your help

1 Best to fly to Stuttgart. Train connections to Strasbourg change at Karlsruhe and Offenburg.
From Strasbourg to Salzburg train connections at 06.44 and change at Munich. Journey time about 6 hours.
Salzburg to Vienna direct train service better to take an IC or OEC or OIC train they have less stops and therefore are quicker.. Journey time about 3hours 30 minutes.
Hope this is some use

Hi Liz, Surfbeach Australia
Our family is also planning to spend Christmas in Salzburg travelling from our home in Perth, Western Australia (planning to do London/Paris/Strasbourg/Geneva/Lucerne) hoping to grab a few nights including New Year%26#39;s in some ski resort around Innsbruck. - might have to keep fingers crossed for that one! Wll need help from the tripadvisors I think!! Still researching and planning, nothing booked yet.
Can I ask why you have chosen Salzburg for Christmas? Anything you are particularly looking forward to about this locale? Have you booked accomm yet? Also, have you any advice for ME?!
Cheers

Hello Perth,
We decided on Salzburg for various reasons, but really didn%26#39;t have a lot of knowledge, we just knew we wanted to experience a real Christmas, the Christmas markets, sleigh rides etc. Anyway I enlisted the help of Trip Advisor and am delighted with the replies. Have a look at the Trip Advisor Salzburg Forum site, you will see my entry %26quot;Surfbeach%26quot; and you will also see the super information given to me.
Have fun

Fly to Frankfurt then take the Lufthansa bus to Strasburg. It%26#39;s a 2 1/2 hour drive.
To Salzbourg : by train to Munich. then Salzbourg.
To Vienna from Salbourg : try flying
