Perfumerie where they mix a PERSONALIZED scent for you??

Help! I remember hearing about a place in Paris where they mix a perfume for you... based on your own scent.

Is it CREED or another French perfumerie?

Thanks!

I have read about this but don%26#39;t recall where (maybe Conde Nast Traveler magazine?). I hope someone can answer this, because I%26#39;d love to know myself!

I know I have this in my notes. Let me look tonight and find it. It is on a scrap piece of paper amongst a pile of more scraps...so it may take me a bit. But I will find it!

Here is the Paris Address and information you were asking about.

Thank you, Berkeley, mtngirl %26amp; Discover, for your feedback.

Someone mentioned that the place I%26#39;m looking for may be MAILLE. They have many boutiques and do customized scents.

Has anyone gotten one done there, and about how much did it cost you?

I discovered that Maille has shops in the U.S., but I heard that EXPORTED French perfume is not as good as the ones you can get within France. Is that true?

Cheers!

For those reading French, here is a recent article on this issue:

01men.com/editorial/…

For those not reading French, here is a summary:

- It is long: usually 3 months, involving several %26quot;essayages%26quot;, as in haute couture (only exceptions: Cinquième sens and Studio des Parfums)

- It is expensive:

a) The big names, lending you their %26quot;nez%26quot; (the fragrance remains yours exclusively of course):

Cartier: 60 000 euros

Jean Patou: 55 000 euros

Guerlain: 30 000 euros.

L%26#39;Artisan Parfumeur: 15 000 euros.

b) Independent %26quot;parfumeurs%26quot; :

Francis Kurkdjian: 8 000 euros

Blaise Mautin: from 8 000 euros upwards

Nicolas de Barry: 5 000 euros.

Nez à Nez: 3 800 euros.

Creed: from 2 000 euros for « cologne » to 10 000 euros real perfume. 10 liters minimum

c) Cheaper, less personalised fragrances:

Cinquième Sens: 120 euros, one afternoon.

Studio des Parfums: 95 euros, 2 hours or 350 euros with several appointments

I suppose you can google all these names if you are interested

Largo: Thank you for your extensive research!

Well, then... since the cost of renting a %26quot;French nose%26quot; seems a bit out of my budget for now:

Can anyone instead recommend a place where they will help you pick your best perfume based on the unique scents that they have?

For example, places like CATHERINE%26#39;S or FREDDY%26#39;S... They seem like stores where you already have to know what you%26#39;re looking for as opposed to finding one.

I am looking for a unique French perfume (not eau de toilette) that smells good on me.

SEPHORA%26#39;S seems a bit overwhelming.

Thanks/Merci for your suggestions!

Whoops! I should have read Largo%26#39;s post more thoroughly. The choices in paragraph C seem very reasonable and what I am looking for... MERCI!

Malle is a great place to go for solid recommendations... their website has an interactive tool to get you thinking about it.

Many of the stars over here %26quot;personalize%26quot; their scent by mixing a few of their faves, for example a dab of Chanel No. 5 at the collar bone, followed by a light spritz of Malle%26#39;s Lipstick Rose.

ps Maille is a mustard store. Probably not the scent you%26#39;re after!

|||

phread: You%26#39;re right, I don%26#39;t want to end up smelling like a deli sandwich... Thanks for clearing that up!

I e-mailed the MALLE store, and apparently they do not do the customized perfume, but they probably do have great recommendations.

Cheers.

I know that many of the great perfume houses will help out customizing a scent.

Guerlain is one.
