Hi, our family will be vacationing in the French Alps, Samoens from 21 - 28 September and my husband absolutely insists on visiting Paris too(we are from South Africa). As it is too far for a one day visit, we might then stay over for the night. I have 2 children aged 13 and 17, so for hotel accommodation we%26#39;ll have to rent 2 rooms. I%26#39;d really appreciate any recommendations regarding accommodation, apartments that are available for one night rental, B%26amp;B%26#39;s, hotels, etc. as long as they are reasonably priced and well located, bearing in mind that we only have one night and 2 half days! Also what are the main tourist attractions that we should focus on for such a short visit?
Thanks

I wouldn%26#39;t do this long trip for only two half days in Paris : too much frustration !

I agree with the last post - you only have 7 days in France and you would effectivly be taking out two of them to travel into Paris for a limited amount of time in the City - enjoy the Alps to the full and visit Paris another time.
Which airport are you flying into?

We are flying into Gevene.
My husband is not to be put off!! I%26#39;ve been spending the past 8 hours doing nothing but trying to figure out the least stressfull way of doing this. It%26#39;s easy to say keep Paris for a next trip, but coming all those miles and getting so close, then leaving without seeing Paris, well.. I%26#39;ll have to figure something out.
The best I could come up with is, was the following
Get up before the crack of dawn and take an easy drive to Geneve (+- 1 hour drive from Samoens). Take the 5:48 AM TGV to Paris. Try to relax and enjoy the ride. Arrive in Paris 9:15 AM. Okay, now what to do until check in time I haven%26#39;t figured out yet, neither how to get to the hotel (any suggestions?). The DuQuesne Eiffel Hotel looks like a good idea, since we can walk to the Eiffel Tower. We%26#39;ll have the rest of the day, or afternoon to visit at least the Arc de Triomphe and see some of the Champs Elysees and then walk to the Eiffel Tower in the evening. Apparently some of the better rooms at the hotel also have a view on the Tower so at least we%26#39;ll get a good glimpse of it! The next day we can plan something small for the morning (any suggestions?) and take the 1:14PM TGV back to Geneve, arrive 4:42PM and be back at our comfy apartment in Samoens at approx 6:15PM. Sounds complicated? Well, I just figure we might never get the chance again, not in this lifetime anyway, so let%26#39;s go for it!

Ok go for it.
Taxi to your hotel to drop your luggage before check in time so you do not have to carry it around.
Do a walking tour to %26quot;eyeball%26quot; the sights you want to see - easily done and take in Notre Dame and a people watching drink in the Champs Elysees.
On the second day I would take a taxi to Sacre Cour - fantastic views over Paris - taxi back to station.
We have done a similar tour the last time we went for a weekend and still found time to %26quot;grab%26quot; a quick museum visit.
I think we will be doing a similar type tour when we visit your country in December - id its Wednesday it must be Cape Town.
Good luck.

Thanks, let me know if you need any advice for Cape Town. We visit it quite often. I have to say though, compared to Paris, it%26#39;s a very small city. I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll have much trouble finding your way. It is a delightful, beautiful city, my favorite in this country!!

Thanks - will do.
Staying at the 12 Apostles for 3 nights. Planning on Table Mountain and Robbin Island.
One of the days is Christmas Day so I expect on that day we will be staying within the hotel.
Any tips for hidden secrets to see welcome.

Hi
Well, if it is a once in a life time opportunity then go for it :-) I have just sent you a PM with a link to my trip report and the Paris Google map that I have made and hopefully that can help you out a little. My wife (from South Africa by the way) and I have been to Paris twice and it is a very nice city. We have spent about a week in the city each time :-) Have a great trip :-)
Regards
