My wife and I will be leaving July 26 for six days in Paris to celebrate her 40th birthday. I would like a really memorable setting for dinner on her birthday on July 31. I am thinking of Cafe de L%26#39;Homme, as I understand it has a striking view of the Eiffel Tower. Any thoughts on whether that would be a good pick? Any better bets?
Also, my wife would really like to be able to see the Mona Lisa on a day and time where the crowds are likely to be smaller around it. I have seen a post suggesting Wednesday or Friday evenings. Would those be our best bets?
Finally, although we certainly plan on seeing all of the main tourist attractions, we would also like to try to find an area within Paris that is just good for mixing with more locals and people watching. By way of example, one of my favorite activities when we visited Quebec City (our warm up for Paris) was to spend a few hours at the local mall, where as best I could tell we were the only Americans. Any good areas with interesting market areas, shops or cafes?
Thanks for any input you could give me as I try to make my wife%26#39;s birthday one that she won%26#39;t forget.

When we went to Paris last year, we got our tickets the day before for the Louvre. It opened at 9:00am so we were at a side entrance with virtually no line at 8:45am. As soon as the door opened we rushed up to the Mona Lisa and were able to see it alone - just the two of us.

If one of your criteria for dinner is a view of the Eiffel Tower, then you should consider Les Ombres.

What a thoughtful gift to give your wife. A dinner cruise on the Seine could be nice. We didn%26#39;t do this but it did look very romantic.
We enjoyed the Marais area and especially the Bastille market on Sunday for mixing with locals.
Enjoy your trip,
Deb

Our group dined at Cafe L%26#39;Homme for one of our gal%26#39;s birthday and it was absolutely magical! The food is wonderful and it%26#39;s got to be the best seat in Paris! However, I have not been to the Musee Branly so can%26#39;t give an opinion of that. Dining on the Cafe L%26#39;Homme Terrace was so wonderful I can%26#39;t imagine anything better than sitting at a full on view of the Tour Eiffel!
Enjoy!

I can not speak for the food at Cafe de L%26#39;Homme but I can tell you that you can not beat the view. My husband and I went there for my 30th birthday a couple of weeks ago. The view is magnificent! That being said, as soon as we were seated it started to rain and to make matters worse, I had been look forward to a highly recommended dish that we no longer on the menu and because of that and the fact that the rain would have forced us to dine instead without the view of the tower, we chose to leave and dine elsewhere. I say definately go because I do regreat that the bad weather ruined our evening, so maybe I would suggest a back up plan in case of rain.
