just back: 1st timer's report

Greetings from NH! I just spent a week in Paris with 3 friends and we had a WONDERFUL time! We left our husbands at home to celebrate turning 50 years young with girfriends. We rented an apartment on Blvd. Pasteur; very close to the metro and an easy walk to the Eiffel Tower. Thankfully, we are all is pretty decent shape so we hit the ground running most every day by 8:30 in the AM and didn%26#39;t go to bed until midnight. Highlights: Sacre Coer and the villages of Monmatre, The Luxumberg Gardens, Notre Dame and the 2 islands at night ( and of course Bertillion iceream!) and dinner at Restaurant de La Tour, near the base of the Eiffel. We didn%26#39;t do alot of fine dining, rather picked a spot when we all became hungry during our daily travels and ended up making some nice choices (totally random!) . We enjoyed Tavern Henry 1V for pate, cheese, fruit , sausage and of course wonderful wines, before embarking on our Seine night cruise at Pont de Nuef. There is also a window to buy snacks and 1/2 bottles of wine ( good red burgundy!) to sip on during the cruise. We also used the Batobus the first full day there to cruise the river and to get our bearings as to where everthing was. The 2nd day we jumped right into using the Metro and found it quite easy, as long as we mapped out and wrote down where we would be changing lines and in which direction we would be going. A couple of us sat and did this each morning while the other 2 were getting ready. We had no problems with communicating with waiters and shopkeepers; being polite and knowing just a few important words and phrases goes a long way!AND we found that most of the people we encountered couldn%26#39;t have been more friendly and helpful if we had any problems. I particularly noticed that younger people (20%26#39;s, 30%26#39;s) went out of their way to be kind. It was a fantastic, magical trip and I certainly plan to return, next time with my husband!

Thanks for the report!

I love reading first-timers reports, the enthusiasm just leaps off the screen. I remember coming back from my first trip in 1990 as if I was in a dream-like state, in such bliss over my experiences. I couldn%26#39;t function at work for several days, literally.

Glad you had a great trip, and thanks for reporting -- it%26#39;s important for people planning their first trip to know how fun and easy it really can be! Now, you just need to start planning the next one!
