What would you do with 7 days in Paris?

We will be in Paris Oct 3-11.

Would like to see museums, tour gardens,

see a show at Moulin Rouge ,eat great food,

see Versailles, do an overnight to Bordeaux

(tour vineyards). Perhaps a day to Normandy.

Any help w/ Itinerary would be appreciated.

Restaurant suggestions needed, too.

Do you recommend a ride on the Seine, too?

Are they still pllaying soccer this time of year?

I assume I%26#39;m be packing fall clothing - will we need a winter coat, too?

Weather could be decent, but could also be rainy and cold, pack for both.

Personally, not a fan of Moulin Rouge, if you feel you must go, at least don%26#39;t go for dinner show, more expensive and food is poor, go for after dinner.

an overnight tour might be overly amibitous for a seven day trip, I would choose only a day trip or two, Versailles an excellant choice, although gardens may be put to sleep.

Chartes a good second option day trip.

Have fun.

Rick Steve%26#39;s Paris 2007 lays out an excellent 7 day itenerary with the walks of the areas and time for the sites. We used his book for our trip in Italy and his suggestions for restaurants were always bang on! I am going to Paris in 10 days and have his book beside me to plan my time.

We were just there. Here%26#39;s what we did:

Day 1 arrive around 5.p.m. via air from Toulouse. Settle in to apartment.

Day 2 - I took a full day trip to Chartres. Took two tours with Malcolm Miller. The labyrinth was uncovered. Husband and kids slept in and explored Paris at their leisure.

Day 3 - Got a 4-Day Paris Museum Pass at the Cluny. Spent a couple hours there. Walked to Louvre. Spent a couple hours there. Walked through Tuileries, to Orangerie, spent an hour or so there. Continued to Place de la Concorde, down the Champs d%26#39;Elysees, had the most expensive drinks of our lives at a cafe there, climbed to the top of the Arc de Triomphe for sunset. took the metro back to our apartment. Very full day.

Day 4 - Ste. Chapelle, the Conciergerie. Walked to the Orsay, had a bite there, and stayed till closing. Met a French friend for a drink in a cafe near our apartment.

Day 5 - Picasso Museum. I went back to the Louvre for another couple hours.

Day 6 - Climbed the tower at Notre Dame. I then went to the Carnavalet Museum, and my husband and kids shopped. Took the metro to the Rodin Museum, walked over the les Invalides to see Napoleon%26#39;s Tomb, but got there as it was closing. Walked via Rue Cler and met my family at the South pillar of the Eiffel Tower. My daughter and I then took the night-time Fat Tire Bike Tour which included a bateau mouche ride.

Day 7 - Went to the Marmottan to see Monet%26#39;s %26quot;Impression: Sunrise.%26quot; Packed up to go home. Bought some Babar prints at a Left Bank bookseller. Walked over to the Louvre to take photos of the pyramid illuminated, and back along the river.

I thought we would do much more, and this was even pushing it. The week went by in a flash. I love art, so that%26#39;s why I took in all the museums...it was too much for even me, and it started to blur. I planned to do one more day trip, but never made it. As it is, I feel like we rushed around too much, and we barely scratched the surface.

Do get the Paris Museum Pass, but don%26#39;t try to wring every penny%26#39;s worth from it. It%26#39;s worth it just to avoid the lines. Try not to see the same things over and over; choose carefully. For instance, if you go to the Cluny which has the fabulous Lady and the Unicorn tapestries and all kinds of Roman and medieval art, skip the medieval galleries in the Louvre. If you go to the Orsay, concentrate on the Impressionist rooms, and skip the rest of it, unless you have a specific interest in the other stuff. It%26#39;s all good, but with a limited time, you have to choose. Otherwise, you can find yourself walking briskly past a whole room of Rembrants, and feeling like it%26#39;s all so ho-hum. Weird, but true.

Be wary of 3-course meals (like around Rue de la Huchette in the Latin Quarter) that cost 9, 10, 11 euros. With one exception, ours were mediocre. Possibly better to spend the same amoutn on a nicer salad or other one main dish and then go to Bertillion for ice cream!

The ride on the Seine was nice. The boat we were on was one of the big ones (part of the Fat Tire Bike Tour) and the ride was over an hour long. It left from a place you could see the Eiffel Tower from, went all the way to past Ile St. Louis, then back past the Eiffel Tower to the mini Statue of Liberty. My husband and son went on a smaller, very cute boat, that had a shorter run, but was quite charming. I can check the name of it, if you%26#39;re interested. They liked it a lot.

I don%26#39;t know what your priorities are, so can%26#39;t recommend a day trip, but I agree with the poster who said that an overnight trip might be a little much with only one week. There is so much variety in and near Paris, and you%26#39;ll spend a lot of time getting there and back. Normandy is great, but it would be a whirlwind trip to see much of it in one day. Giverny, Versailles, or Chartres might be good choices.

Try to take a walk or two, not rushing, and enjoy the ambience of the city...sit in a cafe and feel like you%26#39;re part of the scene. The Pont des Artes (by the Louvre) in the evening seems to be pretty lively, with people sitting in groups, laughing, singing, eating, drinking. Check it out!

Have fun!

Isn%26#39;t this a great web site !!

Thank you so much for all your input.

I made an error in date of travel - we%26#39;ll be going

in November, not October.

Our concern is what%26#39;s open in the wine regions

- finding most Chateaux close the end of Oct.
