I just decided to go to Paris on July 11th. I need some advice on choosing a hotel. I am hoping to send less than $75 a night and I am hoping not to stay in one of these modern chains. I want to try to have the real Paris experience. I don%26#39;t know what area to look for a hotel in. I want to be close to the typical tourist attractions, I don%26#39;t want to spend all my time on the metro or walking to see the sites, and I must be in a safe area. Any suggestions?

I think you need a miracle.
Less than $75 a night, and close to tourist attractions, no long metro rides or walks, AND in a safe area?
I sincerely doubt such a hotel exists in Paris these days meeting those criteria, given the current exchange rates for the U.S. dollar.

There are loads of small, (relatively) cheap hotels in Paris. I%26#39;m booked into the Du Marais in the 3rd Arrondissement (the Marais), a quiet area but still in the thick of things (about $80 a night). If you tap in Paris Hotels in your search engine you%26#39;ll discover a wealth of sites, some of which show where the hotel is on a map. Some will be booked up, of course, but there are always a few with vacancies.

You don%26#39;t explain what that %26quot;real Paris experience%26quot; is for you... but with the budget and time frame you mention, you shouldn%26#39;t expect too much. A look on the map shows you that the attractions are more or less scattered all over Paris, and finding a hotel that%26#39;s %26quot;close to everything%26quot; is, like someone already said, waiting for a miracle.
Having said that, the Hotel Sainte Marie is in the price range you mention, and centrally located though not really near any of the attractions (Printemps and Galeries Lafayette are within walking distance, though).
