summer trip

We are a family of four, and we%26#39;re renting a car, coz we feel it may be convenient since we have kids as well. is having a car a real nuisance? we%26#39;re driving from spain, but will it be better to leave the car in Barcelona, and take the train from there to go to the French Riviera?

we have 6 days (aug. 15-20), where will be a good base hotel for all of us..do we need to make reservations for 2 diff. hotels? we%26#39;d like to see Marseille, nice, eze, monaco...Is it impossible to see the other parts of Provence? Please Advise.

Thanks!!!

Hi spice88,

It%26#39;s a catch 22. Ideally, to have a car is great, since you can stop in any of the wonderful towns in the Provence area, ie: Aix-en Provence, Arles, Avignon, St Remy, and possibly Marseille, all on the way to Nice. Of course, when you get to Nice, there%26#39;s Eze, Cap Ferrat, and on to Monaco. But here%26#39;s the rub. Picking up a car in Spain, and dropping it off in France usually demands a drop off charge, which can be quite costly, possibly as high as $300. Get the charges from your car rental company, so that there won%26#39;t be any surprises. Also, you%26#39;ll be travelling in August, so be prepared for traffic. Try to book hotels to avoid aggrivation. You can always wing it, and try to get rooms when you arrive, but be patient until you luck out. I%26#39;ve always been lucky. Whatever, or wherever, enjoy!
