what to do on Bastille Day?

We leave for Paris in a few short days! and will be in Paris over Bastille Day (our first time in Paris, couple in our late 20s/early 30s). What is the best way to experince the day?

As an aside, thank you for all the wonderful posts - I have gotten some wonderful tips for our trip!

You can watch the parade during the day. I never tried that myself. A tad boring for me. However, you can have a pinic and watch fireworks at night at the Eiffel Tower/Trocadero. It can be very crowded though. I think the best spot to watch the fireworks is at the Trocadero. I always watched from my friend%26#39;s apt on Avenue President Wilson. I am sure someone who visit this forum can offer some tips as where would be the best place to watch the firework.

It would be great if you can mingle with some French people. Unfortunately, from my observation, most of the people who go to see the fireworks tend to stick around their friends and family.

Thank you! Any and all ideas are appreciated!
