It%26#39;s now time to decide on a hotel for our end of November stay in Strasbourg...
Can anyone tell me which hotel (or provide any other suggestions) would be best for touring Strasbourg as well as a good central location for touring other areas (ie Mulhouse, Colmar, Baden Baden).
We love the Sofitel chain so I was looking into the Sofitel Strasbourg and the Novotel Strasbourg (Novotel was a bit cheaper but did have a questionable review regarding drug dealers hanging around outside of the hotel?).
Thanks in advance for all of your replies!

Forget about the Novotel . Both the Sofitel and Novotel are modern hotels in central location . None of them is located in the %26quot;historical%26quot; districts, but the location of the Sofitel is still much better than the Novotel%26#39;s . And Sofitel is higher range than Novotel .
Now, why wouldn%26#39;t you choose an ancient hotel in one of the picturesque areas ??? I%26#39;ve written down some of them with good evaluations in the TA Strasbourg hotels lists, in the same or lower price range than the Sofitel : hôtel Beaucour (very good reputation), hôtel du Dragon (a little bit further away from the center), hôtel de la Cathedrale (just in front of the Cathedral) ...

Thanks, Anne!
I think we usually tend to stick with the %26quot;chain%26quot; type of hotels out of habit! From our experience they usually tend to have more services such as tour contacts, room service and we do love to collect those points :)
I will definitely look into your suggestions, I love historical places (especially those with modern conveniences).
Any other suggestions you may have would be so greatly appreciated (ie the %26quot;must go to%26quot; restaurants, day trips out of Strasbourg, specifically Mulhouse, Colmar %26amp; skip into Germany to Baden Baden, etc.)
Thanks so much for getting back so quickly and I%26#39;ll be looking forward to anymore suggestions you may have!

Day trips out of Strasbourg :
- Colmar is a lovely town, smaller than Strasbourg .
- You must spend a day on the vineyard road and stop in villages such as Obernai, Riquewihr (the best one), Kaysersberg and Eguisheim . It is a pity that you will come in November, the vines will have no leaves anymore and you won%26#39;t see the all those geraniums on the windows sills other than on postcards ...

Thanks again for your suggestions, Anne! You%26#39;ll be happy to know we%26#39;ve decided to stay at hôtel de la Cathedrale, you are 100% right, why stay at Sofitel when the other hotels are so beautiful!
I%26#39;m trying to talk my mother out of Mulhouse, so I%26#39;ll keep you posted on that!
Again, thank you and if you have any other tips I%26#39;d love to hear them!

Sofitel
What else
Great central and quiet location, recently renovated, trendy bar and restaurant and private garage if you are driving.
The hotel de La Cathedrale is also a lovely place if you enjoy being in the middle of the tourist crowd

I studied abroad in Strasbourg in 1996 and go back almost every year. We always stay at the Novotel and have never had a problem with drug dealers or anything else. The location is central (with a tram stop right out front). There is a mall right in the building. Novotel will save you some money as well.
