help appreciated for December trip

My husband and I plan to visit Provence and French Riviera in mid December. We plan to spent 5 days in Provence with Avignon as the base, and to spent 4 days in French Riviera with Nice as the base. We%26#39;ll travel by train and bus. I%26#39;m concerned of the weather in December. Please share your experience with me. I don%26#39;t mind mild winter (50 F high), but I wouldn%26#39;t enjoy raining, windy and chilly days. Thanks.

I will respond to Avignon - in my experience it is cold in December especially if the Mistral is blowing as it probably will sometime in December.

Please do not get me wrong I love Provence and spend as much time as possible there.

You may be lucky and experience a mild winter but be prepared. Even in December if it is a beautiful clear sunny day if the Mistral is blowing it will be cold.

Thank you. Will I need winter outfit - heavy coat, hat, gloves?

I would go for layers but yes to hat and gloves.

Have a great trip.

Oh nearly forgot - Avignon has its Christmas Market in December.
