Orly or CDG?

We will be flying to Paris for a week over New Year as part of our first %26quot;European Adventure%26quot;. We are spending Christmas with my niece %26amp; her family in Basel %26amp; will fly with AirFrance from the Basel-Mulhouse airport but am wondering if we should book to fly to Orly or CDG? We are trying to avoid large airports but wonder which would give easier, less stressful access to Paris %26amp; our accommodation on Ile-de-St Louis.

Thanks

If a smaller airport is important to you, pick Orly.

That said, access from the airport to Paris is pretty much equal from either airport, I%26#39;ve done both.

If you are staying near Montmartre, you%26#39;ll save a little time going to CDG...if you%26#39;re staying on the Left Bank, you%26#39;ll save a little time going to Orly...I%26#39;m not convinced the time-savings are significant, however.

Well, I would think the time difference could be significant. It usually takes me an hour and a half from CDG to Paris - longer it traffic is heavy. Last time into Orly (Sunday and the traffic was light) it took something less than 45 minutes.

You can tell that Orly is closer to central Paris by the cab fares. Usually a cab from CDG runs €45-50. Last cab I took from Orly to the 7th cost €23 with tip.

You know, you%26#39;re right.

I was thinking about the time via RER, which is reasonably similar, I failed to consider the taxi drive time. I%26#39;ve never experienced a 90 minute ride from CDG, 45 minutes to an hour has been the norm for me.

Thanks so much, I thought that Orly might be preferable. I really appreciate how people are so willing to share their knowledge.

The direct train from Mulhouse to Paris using the new high speed TGV-Est takes about 3 hours - definitely less stressful access to central Paris than either CDG or Orly!

I agree - with the new TGV Est, train from Mulhouse to Paris is a much faster, easier and probably cheaper way to reach the city than flying.
