Great trip report - bmt61 –thanks!
We leave for Paris on the 12th of May. We will be in France for just under 4 weeks and I am now starting to think about what to take in the way of clothing. Initially I was thinking of packing for cool weather and a bit of rain but how I hear that Paris has been having a hot spell. Hot in Australia is 35 – 40c + in which case I would be in very light weight trousers or cut offs, short sleave shirts, saddles and sun hat. My husband would be in shorts. Sometimes the temp may not be that high but the humidity makes the wearing if light weight clothes a necessity.
So - can anyone tell me what the Parisians are wearing at the moment?

Well, %26quot;at the moment%26quot; it is 06:58 a.m. in Paris - so most of them will be in their pyjamas or undies or silk lingerie.....
In May you can fine weather in Paris (20-25 C) or chilly weather like last year (15-20 C). Pack a little of each, plus two small foldable umbrellas. I would not take too many shorts, unless they are %26quot;nice%26quot; - not the ones you would wear in your garden.
For you: light skirts and capris and city-type shorts (covering your knees), plus t-shirts and tops.
Remember a cardigan, sweater and a jacket.
What the Parisians are wearing ??? Forget about it - you will never look like a Parisian, so I wouldn%26#39;t even bother trying.

Parisians in general always dress somewhat elegant, even if it%26#39;s casual.The youth wear slim fitted tee%26#39;s and jeans, very fashin forward clothing, the adults wear slacks, blouses, button down tops, polo%26#39;s, sweaters, dresses and skirts. You don%26#39;t see most locals wearing shorts (usually only on vacation at the beach).
I would recommend taking a mix of cool and warm weather attire. Dress in layers in case it%26#39;s cooler in the early or late hours.

LOL! I forgot that Paris is 6 hours behind us.
May be I am out of touch with the names of some of the clothes. I call shorts the ones that come just below the knees. What I call “cut offs” are maybe Capris.
I certainly will not be competing with the Parisian fashions but some of what you have suggested confirms what I was now thinking – the problem I’m having is I left it too late to refresh my tired summer wardrobe as the stores are stocked for winter.
Going naked??!! Now there’s a nasty thought Wiz!
That would be one way to get rid of those pesky queues at the Eiffel Tower.
The thought of taking an empty suitcase is looking like a good idea.
Do they have stores for larger women?
Thanks

You can actually see what people are wearing here:
http://www.paris-danse.com/webcam.asp
Sometimes they set up the outside tables for the cafe. Then (as long as the weather is good) there are lots of people there.
|||
They must be closed on Mondays though -- I%26#39;ve never seen it dead like that at lunchtime.
|||
Wiz, that was too funny!
KK, I just got back from Paris last week.
Men are wearing longer (knee-length) shorts or jeans, short sleeve shirts/polos.
Women: flowy %26#39;broomstick%26#39; skirts, capris (which for me means below-knee shorts), jeans, short sleeve shirts/polos.
Basically for both genders, %26#39;neat, modest, and comfortable%26#39; rules the day.
Shoes: flats, flats, flats. Thankfully I saw far fewer female tourists this time who were wearing high heels. (Sometimes I see this while standing on line at Tour Eiffel, and I want to ask them what they were thinking? As Gitte says, they already know you are not a Parisian, so why are you torturing yourself with high heels when you are touring a city like Paris?)
Also - sneakers, sneakers, sneakers - have never seen so many in all my life, and all in different colors, including white. The white ones were not just on Americans, either - I heard all different sorts of languages coming from people wearing white sneakers.
Also as Gitte says, the one thing I saw VERY LITTLE of (and thus it stuck out like a sore thumb) were bare knees. No short shorts, no mini-skirts or dresses. Thankfully the three people I did see them on, had the figure to pull it off!

Thanks Gitte – that’s really helpful! I tried a search on TA but obviously didn’t type in the right search.
LOL – I thought “Forte” means – “extra strong”. I’m ok with being “Extra strong female” – it’s the “Super size plus” I have a problem with.

hatlady - just you wait till I promenade my chubby icy-milky-white knees in my Shorts-With-A-Very-Big-Bum-Squeezed-Into-Them up and down the Tjamps-Elaisys. THAT will be the talk of the season - Paris Hilton, go home and knit a pair of woolen undies !!!!
