what is the paris visite pass?

I am a bit confused about the various modes of transportation around paris. we are in paris from a Friday to Friday and our hotel is in Montmarte area - should we just buy tickets or a pass? if a pass is it good on all modes of transportation? is the hop on hop off bus and boat different? please help!

all are explained in English on the tourism website:

…parisinfo.com/paris-map/getting-around/publ…

The most economical pass is the Carte Orange zones 1-2, and it is good Monday-Sunday. For the prior days Fri/Sat/Sun you can buy carnets of tickets to share or buy a daily pass called Mobilis. Go to the above website for details and you can also go to

www.transport-idf.com/frontal…

for information.

The hop on/off buses are not public transportation, they are privately run and you buy tickets just for that, if that%26#39;s what you want.

You might also try the Paris Visite (by RATP) website for all the information, including %26quot;benefits%26quot; and cost, at:

http://www.parisvisite.com/en/index.php

Be sure to note that under the benefits page, there are a total of four (4) links to see everything: Culture, Discover, Outings and Store. Click on each/all of them to see all the benefits.

In general, because of the price, most of us don%26#39;t advise using the Paris Visite pass unless you plan to take advantage of the dicounts offered with it. A Carte Orange or individual tickets (purchased in discount packs of Carnets) as Travelnutty suggests are generally a far greater value for your transportation needs than purchasing the PV.
