Has anyone stayed at one of the MIJE hostels? What are they like - full of rowdy teenagers on school trips? In particular, would you recommend them for someone in their 40%26#39;s? They offer single rooms at 42 euros: would comparably priced hotels be better? The locations (apparently all in the Marais)appear ideal! Can%26#39;t believe there%26#39;s not a catch somewhere.

In my student days, I stayed at two of them (notably Le Fauconnier and another one close by, probably Le Fourcy).
These are not hotels, they are primarily for youths and students. Are you sure you will be accepted? I didn%26#39;t know they have single rooms, when I was there (with 2 or 4 people) I slept in a room (dorm) for 4. Nothing fancy, just very plain beds.
A catch? Have a look at their conditions: closed between 1 and 7 am, silence after 22 pm, maximum stay 7 nights, etc.

Thanks, Jantoo. Yes they do accept all ages, apparently. Was trying to get an idea of the atmosphere there, but perhaps I also overlooked all those rules %26amp; regs - they do suggest a very young clientele.

When i was there i thought the location was great, it was ten years ago so i can%26#39;t remember if there were older people though

As to be expected, the crowd tends to be much younger in the school holiday periods, but I have seen several groups of seniors using Fourcy site.

I have to admit that it is a good ten years since I stayed at the MIJE in Fourcy but it was a complete nightmare and I vowed I would never stay there again. I went with a small group of rather quiet country children from our local school, and we were kept awake all night by rowdy behaviour. If your idea of a good night%26#39;s sleep is having condoms full of water thrown past your window all night, then fine, but otherwise avoid it like the plague. Most of the teachers abdicated all responsibility for their groups. I suggest you seek a similarly priced hotel.

We just returned from Paris and stayed at the MIJE hostel. We were a group of 4 17 year old girls and their moms (ages 45 and 50). We were in the Hotel Maubisson. Thhe location is just fantastic and our rooms were spotless with a great shower and sink in the room. Toilets down the hall were fine. Breakfast was a fresh hunk of baguette and a croissant with good cold juice and coffee. We had a school group from Amsterdam come in the last night of our 3 nights there that were temporarily loud when they came in, but other than that, we encountered no particular rowdiness. We were at the end of 2 weeks in Switzerland, France and Italy, staying in hostels almost every night. The MIJE rated the best with our group. Please feel free to email me if I can answer more specific questions about this hostel.
