How to get from Paris to Dordogne by bus/train?

I wondered if there any way to the Dordogne Valley, specifically Chateau des Milandes where Josephine Baker once lived. Do anyone know of any bus or train that get to this area fairly inexpensively? thanks

The %26quot;easiest%26quot; is to take the train from Paris (Austerlitz Station) to Souillac, which lies approx. 40km west of Castelnaud, the village of Chateau des Milandes. The trip lasts about 4h30 and should cost you no more than 50 euros one-way.

I know there are scheduled bus services from Souillac to Sarlat, the main tourist hub of Dordogne, close to Castelnaud. Sarlat tourist office should be able to inform you (www.ot-sarlat-perigord.fr). how to get to Chateau des Milandes.

I agree with pic68. We just returned from that round trip, AUSTERLITZ-SOUILLAC-AUSTERLITZ today. We rented a car on arrival and that%26#39;s what I%26#39;d recommend you do. The bus service is infrequent so you%26#39;ll spend a lot of time waiting around instead of sightseeing and it%26#39;s unlikely it will take you exactly where you want to go.

If you book your train and car through the SNCF website, the cost ot the car rental is less expensive and the insurance is included.

I agree take the train from Austerlitz - you might want to consider Brive as your end point, as it%26#39;s very easy to rent a car there (several major agencies, e.g., Avis) within half block of the station. It%26#39;s about a four-hour trip from Paris.

Yes, Brive has more car rental options than anywhere within 100km. During high-season, it%26#39;s probably a better choice if you can%26#39;t nail down a rental at a smaller town.
