Hi,
I am going to south france by car and trying to find a nice city were we could stay overnight and enjoy the place a little bit (having a nice dinner, some sightseeing, etc). Would you have a place to suggest that would be more or less middle way from Dijon to Marseille? We are taking 3 days to go from Reims to Marseille so we would like to stop in nice (typical) french places...
Thanks for any suggestions!

You may stop in Lyon, a beautiful city (the whole city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site), famous for its gastronomy. It is not right in the middle betwwen Dijon and Marseille, but could be OK to arrive early to enjoy a walking guided tour, for example. And go on your visit the next morning, having lunch in a nice restaurant before leaving for Marseille. Have a look :

A logical stop would be Avignon...

Middle way... well, Avignon, as suggested, or Aix, are great for a stop, but quite close to Marseille. Lyon is a much bigger city, some ugly parts but a wonderful old area near St-Jean cathedral. From Dijon you just follow the highway south, and in Lyon center you park (the old area is pedestrians only).
Another option would be some charming farmstay in a nice village, you have many of them along the Rhone valley, great wine area, great dinner, however you would not really have %26quot;sightseeing%26quot; in this case!

What about Vienne - south of Lyon - for a different kind of feel than a large city?

Vienne has a few great buildings from the Roman era, and a wonderful Roman museum. Except for this, well, and specially on evening and sundays, I find the place totally ugly and depressing! Worth a short stop on a sunny afternoon, but avoid spending the evening there!

Lyon gets my vote too.
For years we either drove around the city or through it depending on the traffic. Last year we stopped , stayed in the old town and had a great time!
